Orthognathic surgery

Orthognathic surgery, or as it is more commonly referred to as, corrective jaw surgery, can be a daunting prospect for patients. When we talk about Orthognathic surgery in simple terms, the goal is to correctly position the jaw to alleviate discomfort, improve aesthetics and/or restore functionality (the ability to chew, swallow, speak and close the mouth comfortably).

Corrective jaw surgery can also include Genioplasty (or chin surgery) and Maxillo-Mandibular Advancement (MMA) – a surgery which can offer significant relief for patients suffering with obstructive sleep apnea.

Surgical Solutions

Surgical Solutions

Dr Beech is trained in advanced Orthognathic procedures and will be able to provide a solution based on your individual circumstances. Using an innovative surgical planning technique, we will take accurate CT scans of your teeth and jaws to create customised materials and printed guides to ensure surgical accuracy and optimal results.

Nick also draws on his extensive specialist Maxillofacial training and can offer patients innovative options such as the ‘Surgery-First’ and segmental osteotomy techniques.

Dental Implants

Dental Implants

If you lose a tooth or have had one removed, a dental implant is a fixed solution where a screw-like implant is placed into the jaw (where the root would normally be) and an artificial tooth, or crown, is attached in place of the missing tooth.

Dr Beech takes a considered approach to the surgery itself, being careful to preserve the socket from further loss of bone. This means Dr Beech may replace a single tooth with an immediate implant at the time of surgery, or perform a full mouth rehabilitation to restore a healthy smile and improve overall oral hygiene.

Bone Grafting & More

Bone Grafting & More

In a typical dental implant procedure, the remaining jaw bone should grow around the implant to hold it in place. However, in some cases bone grafting or regeneration techniques such as an alveolar augmentation (the upper and lower parts of the jaw which hold the sockets and roots), sinus lift procedures or onlay grafting may be included in Dr Beech’s treatment recommendations. This is to prepare and preserve the bone and ensure the long term health of your teeth.

Facial Fractures & Trauma

Facial Fractures & Trauma

Facial fractures are both painful and traumatic for patients. They require treatment which is prompt, skilled and empathetic as restoring aesthetics is equally as important as restoring proper function. Dr Beech treats both mandible fractures (jaw fractures) and midface fractures (such as the cheekbone, eye socket and nasal bone).

For fracture and trauma surgeries, Dr Beech uses virtual surgical planning where necessary to achieve optimal patient results, along with custom prosthesis or endoscopic-assisted techniques to minimise healing time.

Wisdom Tooth Removal & Oral Surgery

One of the most common procedures performed by Dr Beech is wisdom tooth removal and wisdom tooth surgery, along with general tooth extractions. Painful or irritating wisdom teeth, whether they have erupted or remain below the surface are concerning for patients. Our pricing is transparent and upfront with the surgical removal of four wisdom teeth never costing more than $2,200. It is important to note that hospital and anaesthesia fees are not included in this figure.

Other Oral Surgery

Other Oral Surgery

Other problems commonly treated through oral surgery include exposure and bonding of impacted teeth and both skeletal anchorage and temporary anchorage devices (TADS) which assist and improve orthodontic outcomes. To ensure patient comfort, we offer a suite of anaesthetic options including local anaesthetic, IV sedation and general anaesthetic.

Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction

Commonly referred to as TMJ, this dysfunction of the jaw can cause pain (ranging from minimal through to excruciating), noises, locking of the jaw and abnormal movement. Given the cause for Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction can be from wear and tear of the joint, injury, existing dental issues or from jaw clenching and grinding, Dr Beech will offer a tailored diagnosis and management plan.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

Methods which fall under the category of minimally invasive surgery include arthroscopy (keyhole surgery which uses a tiny camera to examine the joint), arthrocentesis (a surgical wash or flushing out of the joint) and botox injections into the jaw muscles.

Deciding on the right treatment will come down to balancing your lifestyle with how severe your TMJ is and the desired outcome.

Biopsies & Treatment

Dr Beech will recommend you have the area examined in person and may perform a biopsy to determine the cause of the pathology. Treatment will depend on your diagnosis, with Dr Beech explaining the nature of your condition and the available options. These will always be discussed with you at length, prior to a treatment plan being put in place. The goal is always to prevent deterioration of the bone and your teeth, and preserve your oral health.

Oral Pathology

Changes to your lips, cheeks, palate or gum tissue can be a sign of oral pathology or disease. You may experience whitish or reddish patches, as well as lumps, lesions, thickening or cysts in the mouth and jaw area. These conditions require an accurate and early diagnosis to ensure the correct treatment is offered.
